Copying and pasting a table from Word to Sharepoint does not allow me to format the table in full

I pasted a table from a word document into SharePoint, however it won't let me format it (stretching it to fit the entire box... etc - I cannot make the table from scratch because it contains special formatting (3 columns in 2 rows and 2 in the others, I will paste an example)

How can I paste and format it in a way that makes it similar to the look and feel of the site?

(I want to stretch it)

The word table that I am copy/pasting from

This will never work well because of all the code included that's proprietary to Word but indecipherable to a browser.

Hi Vannesa,

Thanks for your quick reply with requested information.

I tried to test from my side, created table with the same Formatting as you, but I can stretch it without any issues.

Now, please let us try something, as a Workaround. But this Workaround may only work if you don't want to modify table content within SharePoint!

In Word, if you copy that table, paste it as an image in Microsoft Word, then Copy the image table from Word and paste that Image table in SharePoint page, then stretch that. How does it behave?

Or If Word Image doesn't paste well, you can either:

  1. Use Microsoft Paint to crop the table sides.
  2. Or Copy table from Word to PowerPoint slide1. Then copy the table from slide 1 to slide 2 and paste as a picture. Copy that Picture paste it to SharePoint. Then you can stretch this image to fit the page.

If the above is inconsistent, please post back and keep us posted so that we further troubleshooting.

We appreciate your cooperation!

Sincerely,

Edwine | Microsoft Community Moderator

    Thank you Edwine,

I was able to stretch the table, replicating it by image also worked!

    Best Regards,

    Vanessa

Hello Edwine! I really appreciate the response, let me elaborate for you and answer your questions.

    1. Yes, I am pasting into the text section on a SharePoint page. I select the entire table in the word document by highlighting it, and I have tried using Ctrl+V and also using right click/paste on the site.
    2. I am trying to post this on an internal site - not public but it reaches clients within the government - I would say this is a team site.
    3. If I paste a simple table, I am able to stretch it without any problem.

I cannot post screenshots of the process because I am limited in my ability to capture my mouse movements: but to clarify I CAN stretch and resize the first two columns. but the last column (at the end of the table) will not stretch no matter what I try.

Before we share any suggestions, please let us first clearly understand your situation, and then we will share proper suggestions:

    1. Yes. You mentioned you are pasting the table in SharePoint. May I know where exactly you are pasting this copied table? In a SharePoint page? or, and how are you pasting it? if possible, please share steps and clear screenshot of how and where you are pasting this table.
    2. What type of a site are you trying to paste this table? Communication or Team site?
