How to get a full page in Word?

I am working on a document in Word 10. It is putting blank space at the bottom of every page. When I click on the button to show formatting marks, there are a couple of paragraph marks and (on some pages) little squares--in greyscale. How to delete these marks? How can I get the correct number of lines per page?

    Hi Alex A!

Thank you for writing to the Microsoft Answer Community Forum, I am Shakiru, an advisor and a user like you, and I am glad to be helping you out today.

I understand you are having an issue with the Blank white space at the end of every page and you wish to remove it.

    Please do this

Click File > Options > Display, then uncheck 'Show white space between pages in Print Layout view'. Then you can edit and see separate pages.

I hope this fixes the issue

    Best Regards, Shakiru

To make Word create uniform page lengths is not a trivial task. See http://wordfaqs.ssbarnhill.com/BottomLine.htm.

By the way, is this Word running under Windows?

    Hi Alex!

    Thank you for your reply.

Please can you share the image for a better understanding,

However, have you tried to do this:

    1. starting the Word in safe mode
    2. Have you checked for updates
    3. Repair the Microsoft Office

    Kind Regards, Shakiru

Thanks, Shakiru, but that is not the problem. The issue is that Word is truncating the page--it is not allowing the full number of lines on each page. There is too much white space between the last line of the text and the bottom of the page. It needs to allow another couple of lines at least before moving to the next page.

This is new. I have been working on this document for some time. It's over 200 pages long and I've never had this issue before. I have no idea what has triggered it, but it's making life very difficult. I looked at the widows and orphans setting among many others and nothing has worked.

I started this document in Open Office and when I bought Word I converted it. I've been working with it in Word for about a week now. This problem didn't start until today.
