Insert an Equation Shortcut (ALT + =) Not Working

Hello,

the shortcut for inserting an equation (ALT + =) in OneNote does not work for me in any version (2019, for Window 10, and 365) while it works for my Word.

I already have tried modifying and reinstalling as a Microsoft agent advised in a previous discussion.

Does anyone know why this shortcut does not work or how to make it work?

Thank you

    Hi Jacob,

After experimenting further, I found that the problem for me was the keyboard language setting. When I use the ENG/KOR keyboard, the shortcut does not work, while it works fine when I switch to the ENG(US) keyboard. If you type in different languages, switching to the US layout might worth a try.

    Best,

    Hello,

Thank you so much for the response. While your solution works well in other Office programs (eg: Word), it does not seem to work at the OneNote which is my key interest. If I am not mistaken, I believe that unlike other programs, the OneNote does not have an option for Keyboard shortcuts at Customize Ribbon section and I indeed do not see one in my OneNote. So, your solution, unfortunately, does not seem to apply to my problem with the OneNote.

Thank you so much for the help, however.

    Thank you for the response.

I am aware of that I can add the equation manually, but just wish that I can do so with the keyboard shortcut, which is supposed to work but does not work in my case for some mysterious reason.

    Hi,

I'm Ayo and I'd be happy to help you out with your question.

Try going to File>Options>Customize Ribbon>Keyboard shortcuts Customize and then select Insert Tab from the Categories list and then select the EquationInsert command and assign that key combination to it, or perhaps click on the Reset All button.

If you require any further assistance please don’t hesitate getting in contact. Thank you.

    Hello,

    Hello,

    Greetings for the day!

Thanks for writing here at this community and we are glad to help you.

Create math equations on a OneNote page using Equation Tools in OneNote for Windows 10. Choose from a library of mathematical symbols and structures to build different types of equations.

    1. Sign into Office.com.
    2. Open OneNote and open or create the notebook you would like to add equations to.
    3. Select Insert >Equation.
    4. Select the Symbols tab or the Structures tab, then a category. From there, select symbols or structures to insert into your math equation. For example: To insert a basic math symbol, select Symbols, then select the Basic Math +- category. From there, select a symbol to insert.

OneNote automatically saves recently selected symbols and structures. From the Recent tab, you can view and select symbols and structures you've recently used.
