My cursor highlighter won't move into my One Note document

I used to use a cursor highlighter to help with my teaching. Now when I use my Surface pen the highlighter won't move into the document. I can see it on the menu and in the list of pages, but it won't follow my pen into the document so I can highlight things for my students. I used it all last semester and can't figure out what has changed.

I have experienced this exact problem.

I am using OneNote 2016 (Microsoft® OneNote® for Microsoft 365 MSO (Version 2208 Build 16.0.15601.20148) 64-bit) and Pen Attention (http://www.cse.uaa.alaska.edu/~afkjm/PenAttention/) for the pointer tracker. And a Wacom Intuous writing tablet and pen.

Pen Attention will track inside the writing area when I'm using the mouse, but when I use my Pen with my Wacom Intuous tablet, the tracking icon stops at the border of the writing area. It tracks on the list of pages and on the ribbon, but stops at the writing area border. I have duplicated the behavior in Word as well the tracker stops at the bottom of the ribbon. Interestingly, in Excel it does track the pen inside the cell area (although I never use the pen in Excel). Pen Attention was working properly in June (when school ended), and was working the week of July 18 when I was teaching a summer course, but since I've been back to school (Sept. 9) it stopped working properly.

Thinking it was an issue with Pen Attention, I tried two other pen trackers: Key N Stroke (https://github.com/Phaiax/Key-n-Stroke), and Pointer Focus (https://www.pointerfocus.com/ ). And both of these behave the same as Pen Attention i.e. stopping at the writing border in OneNote.

By the way, we wouldn't need these pen trackers for our teaching if there was a built in feature to track the cursor in the writing area and you can call it "presentation mode" we need it because we are moving around the classroom and frequently are standing at least 10 feet away from the white board with our laptop projected and it is impossible to see a 1 pixel cursor from further than about 4 feet.

My laptop is up to date with Microsoft 10 Pro version 10.0.19044 Build 19044.

I hope you can help determine what changed to cause this.

    Thanks.

    Dennis

In the previous versions or before a certain update of win 10, it was possible to highlight or record pen cursor in the editing areas of 64-bit office apps. Now pen cursor behaves differently when inside 21H1 or 22H2, win 10 64bit PowerPoint, or OneNote's editing area. You can definitely highlight/record the pen cursor in the presentation mode even in 64bit. If you want to highlight/record pen cursor in the editing areas of office apps, you can do it with 32-bit versions of office apps.
