My external drive converted my videos into pictures

I have an external drive I use to store my hiking videos. I tried to access them this evening and all of my files with .MP4 file extensions have automatically converted to .jpeg file extensions.

How did this happen?

Can I convert them back to .MP4?

Odd. Nothing I know in Windows would do that automatically. There could be come program on your computer that had done something, but i have never heard of it before. Perhaps someone else will have an idea. Sorry I couldn't help like I thought I could.

Yes, it opens as a picture. I've tried removing the .jpeg extension and then the computer tells me it's unable to open the file at all.

I'm assuming the files, and or the drive are corrupted, or else what would explain file extensions being added to file names? What else would cause that?

Hi. I'm Brian and I'll try to help.

If you try to open one of those files, does it open into a picture? Have you tried removing the .jpeg extension from one of those and then opening it?
