Excel Border Colors when copying and pasting

Hi,

I just upgraded my office version so I'm getting used to alot of new things which is good. However, one thing is bugging me and I need help making it stop. It's a copy and paste and cell formatting issue in Excel and I know that I probably just need to check or uncheck an option but I don't know which one it would be. I'm not sure how to put into words what it's doing but I'm gonna try my best.....when I have a cell formatted a certain way (let's say border color pink) and then I copy info into that cell that's formatted differently (border color blue) the cell updates to be formatted the way the copied data is formatted (border color blue) which is what I want. But then if I have to later on cut that pasted cell and put it somewhere else the cell shows the original formatted border color pink which isn't what I want. I want the cells to show no formatting when I cut a cell. I just want each cell to stay the way it's formatted before, during, and after cutting, copying, and pasting. LOL!

I am very thankful for all the help I have received whenever I have posted on this website.

Thanks!

Edited to add: I have a Microsoft 365 subscription so I'm not exactly sure which Excel version I'm using but I am thinking it's Office 2016 maybe?

    Hello Scarlett,

    Greetings for the day!

I'm glad to help you regarding the query with excel date formula.

I understand that you are trying the copy the values from the cell and not the formula or the format from the source. Please note that after regular 'Ctrl C', if you would like to copy the value along with formatting, please use special paste. Short cut 'Alt, H, V and E' will provide you the result.

Please look into following to option,

    1. Select the range of cell's that you want to copy
    2. Press 'Ctrl+C"
    3. Now select "Alt + E, S , V" for paste special
    4. You will get a popup for "Paste Special". Paste Values is one of the many pasting options on the Paste Special menu. Below are the short cuts.
    5. Keyboard shortcut to paste only values excluding "formula and formatting" - Alt, E, S, V, Enter.
    6. Keyboard shortcut to paste only values excluding formats and formula - Alt, H, V and V
    7. Keyboard shortcut to paste only "values & Number formatting" - Alt, H, V and A
    8. Keyboard shortcut to paste only "values & source formatting" - Alt, H, V and E
