Turn off Auto Uppercase

Hello,

I'm working in Microsoft Word For Mac (version 16.66.1). I'm having an issue with it auto-formatting my text into all uppercase.

I'm working in a table with two columns. On the left column, whenever I add a new cell, it automatically sets it as uppercase. So, whenever I create a new cell, I need to start typing, highlight the text, go into font options, and change it to "Sentence Case". It does not do this on the right side.

I've turned off all of the auto correct and auto formatting options, but it still does this. Please help - this is very frustrating!

Thank you,

John

Here's how to modify the table style:

    1. Click inside a table that shows all caps.
    2. Choose the Table Design tab, then expand the table style gallery and choose Modify Table Style.
    3. Click on the Format dropdown and choose Font.
    4. Uncheck the All caps option, then click on OK.
    5. Back in the Modify Style dialog, click on OK again.

    Any better?

Hello Charles, thanks for the input.

Yes, it's definitely taking the previous formatting. My question is how to change that formatting. I've tried highlighting everything and setting to "sentence capitalization." This changes the font, but the default for a new one is still uppercase

It sounds like that table style has the Whole Table section set to uppercase. To make this stick to future documents, the source file (template or document) should have the style modified. It's a non-intuitive process with several steps, so if you'd prefer, please upload the source file to a cloud service, and post a Share link here. One of us will fix the table style for you.

    Hello, thanks for the reply!

And yes, it is the same table style.

To provide more context, I'm creating video production scripts for work. I'm working off of old versions, so the formatting changes. The left side of the column usually has uppercase where as the right side doesn't.

However, I would much prefer to have it not auto format to uppercase

Are you using the same table style each time? What happens with a different table style?
