PowerPoint for Mac suddenly freezing and crashing computer when exporting videos

I've been using PowerPoint for Mac to record and export videos ranging in length from 2 minutes to 8 minutes daily for the past 9 months. The videos have had animations and embedded videos and there have been no issues.

Since upgrading to Ventura last week, I can no longer export a video from PowerPoint longer than 15 seconds. I've tried deleting and re-installing PowerPoint, safe booting the computer, disabling add-ins - nothing has worked. I'm using PowerPoint 16.66.1.

Is there anything short of re-imaging my hard drive that can be done to fix this issue? It's impacting my ability to do my job.

It’s unfortunately on all files. Even a brand new file that I leave blank and simply record laser pointer movements for 1 minute per slide freezes up upon export. The longest I’ve been able to export is 5 second slides and even then it nearly crashes.

Wiping my computer, reinstalling Ventura, powerpoint, etc. hasn’t worked. I can export the video for the same file on a windows computer.

I think I’ll have to go back to Monterey for a bit until I can sort it out.

Update: Switching back to Monterey fixed the problem completely - every file, even the longer videos containing embedded videos and animations, exported quickly and without issue. Must have been something with my laptop's schematics and Ventura.

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately even with the Beta Build, PowerPoint still froze and crashed my computer. Must be an issue with Ventura / PowerPoint not playing nice with my set up.

    Hi

I'm using the beta build of PowerPoint in Ventura and have no issues with saving as mp4

Give the beta build a try (if you are eligible)

Here's how to get the beta build
