If you are using Ventura Mac OS, use System Settings > Accessibility > Spoken Content > Manage Voices to switch voices on and off.

The Read Aloud voices available are all robotic and sound terrible. One even laughs at my paper, while another sings it. None of the options are useful or appealing, and I desperately need to use this feature to assist me in editing my college papers. This occurred following an update. Please assist.

Thank you; I was able to install the "Evan (Enhanced)" voice, and my papers can now be read aloud by a natural-sounding voice. But I don't see how I can get rid of the other voices.
Well, evidently someone with access to your User Account is technically savvy enough :-) Your screen shot shows that both the Zotero & the Qullbot add-ins have been installed. That suggests that others may have been installed as well. Does anyone else have access to your Mac?
Expanding on what I wrote before, Mac Office provides only 7 voices. Three of them [Fred, Kathy & Samantha] appear in your list. I have no way of knowing whether they are the same voices or just other voices wiy=th the same name.
From Word> About Microsoft Word what is the present Version & type of License for your Office software. Also, is your credentials indicated in the Belongs to: field or is it some employer/institution/organization? Include that information in your reply as well as the specific version of macOS you're using.
Certainly not. At least, not to my knowledge. I've even removed the Mac apps and reinstalled Microsoft 360 from the website. This is bizarre. I'm in desperate need of a fix. I assure you that I am not technically savvy enough to install a third-party package. I simply want to use the Read Aloud function as intended.
The voices in that list are not the ones supplied with Mac Office or the voices supplied with the macOS Accessibility features. Did you obtain some sort of 3rd party package?
