Word table alignment

I stuck with Office 2010 until a couple of weeks ago. I now have MS 365 and it has some improvements and many retrograde features.

I use tables in Word frequently. With Word 2010 all I had to do to organise the text alignment in a single or multiple cells was to right click in the cell(s) and pick the alignment I want from the cell alignment menu.

That right click doesn't present me with this option in MS 365. I find I need to go to various menus like "Table Properties" and scroll between vertical and lateral alignment options. Frankly it's a pain and takes too long. Have I missed something or has Microsoft ditched a simple option in favour of a complex one?

Displaying the Quick Access Toolbar below the ribbon (which is where it should be in my opinion) and the adding the table Layout>Alignment group to that toolbar (by right clicking on it and then on Add to Quick Access Toolbar, may make it easier for you to use.

While I agree that this is a "retrograde feature," in versions after Word 2010, you can't select horizontal or vertical alignment of a cell independently. Instead, on the Layout tab of the contextual Table Tools (which are displayed when the insertion point is in a table), in the Alignment group, you'll see a matrix of alignment buttons: Align Top Left, Align Top Center, etc. Not at all convenient when you want every cell in the table aligned Top or Bottom, but some are horizontally centered, some left-aligned, etc.

    Dear Ashsansom,

Good days, thanks for querying in this forum, we’re happy to help you.

From your description, it seems that you want to right-click cells in a table and select alignment directly in Word for 365, however, you need to select Table property firstly.

If my understanding above is right, we have also tested it on our side, we inserted a table in Word document, and then we selected cells > right-clicked it > we need to click Table Properties then click alignment to adjust the alignment. We can reproduce the same situation as yours.

We do understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it.

Personally I completely agree with you, this is indeed a good addition to the current features of Word. It would be definitely ideal if we can adjust alignment via right-clicking cells. Thank you for bring thing to our attention. We sincerely recommend you go to Word Feedback community to vote this feedback: In MS Word on right click popup menu pls add :- Cell Vertical Alignment Command · Community (microsoft.com) or you can go to Word · Community (microsoft.com) to provide your feedback· This is the best platform to let us hear from you and make Microsoft products and services better for you and others.

If the scenario above is not consistent with yours, you can also post back and point that.

Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.

    Sincerely,
