PowerPoint stuck in US English

I set the language to English UK but the setting is ignored, and English spellings are flagged. I have been in contact with support on Twitter but no solutions as yet. I'm accessing via my university.

Any solutions?

Thanks

You may see this problem if the presentation itself has been set to some language other than the one you want to use. The presentation's language becomes the default, and any pre-existing text will also be set to that other language.

As a test, select some of the text that's giving you unexpected spelling warnings.

Then on the Review tab, click Language | Language Settings

    Choose UK English

Does that solve the problem (for that one text box, at least)?

I'm experiencing the same issue in Word. Setting the language in options has no effect.

    >> It may be the language was tied into the template.

Quite likely. If the original template was created on a non-UK installation of PowerPoint, then the template's placeholders would be set to the same language default as the presentation. Luckily, you seem to have a well-constructed presentation, with the text based on placeholders. You may also find, though, that if you insert text boxes or add text to shapes on individual slide, that it reverts to non-UK English.

If you use those, you'll have to reset them individually. I was hoping that setting one to UK English then setting that as the default text box would work, but unfortunately language isn't one of the things PPT picks up as the default.

Just as a FWIW, there are a couple of commercial add-ins that deal with the problem more thoroughly than we can as users ... they dig further under the hood than we can ourselves.

    John Wilson's LINGO add-in is one: http://www.pptalchemy.co.uk/Real\_Lingo.html

There's even some VBA that does a fairly thorough job for free.

I {modest cough} also have one: PPTools LanguageSelector

What I did was go to slide master, select both text boxes for the master slide and set the language for them. Now the spellcheck stopped flagging English spelling like 'colour'. It may be the language was tied into the template.

    Thank you

    Dear Cake5,

Good days, thanks for querying in this forum. We’re happy to help you.

From your description, it seems that you want to change display language to UK English, however, it stuck on US English.

If my understanding above is right, we’d suggest you go to this page Language Accessory Pack for Office (microsoft.com) to download UK English package directly to check if you can install it. If you have tried the link in the official article, we’d suggest you try the suggestions below to check if they will help you:

    1. You can refer to this article: Repair an Office application (microsoft.com) to repair Office. If an Office application such as Word or Excel isn’t working correctly, sometimes restarting it will fix the problem. If that doesn’t work, you can try repairing it. When you’re done, you might need to restart your computer.
    2. You can also try using clean boot in windows to check if there is any third-party app or program. How to perform a clean boot in Windows (microsoft.com)

At the same time, to better understand your situation and narrow down this issue, could you provide the information below?

    1. Could you provide the product information and version of PowerPoint? You can go to PowerPoint > File > Account and provide the full screenshot of Account page?
    2. May I know if the other Office applications have the same problem?
    3. May I know if you encountered any error message when installing language package? If so, could you provide the screenshot of error message?

    Thanks for your cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Sukie | Microsoft Community Moderator
