Writing Exponents with Equation Editor

I’m writing a test and need to write fractions inside of parentheses.

Outside of the parentheses I need an exponent but I cannot get it to work correctly so the exponent is high enough … could someone please tell me what steps to take, what to select, and in what order please?

I want them to look like the fractions in the attached photo — these we’re done in equation editor in Word.

I have done this previously so I know it’s possible to do, but I cannot do it now…please help!

    Create an equation.

    1. Insert a superscript.
    2. Select the lower part of the superscript, and insert parentheses.
    3. Select the box inside the parentheses, and insert a stacked fraction.
    4. Result.

You can also type, for example, "(2/3)^2 ", inside an equation, and it will automatically Convert to Professional Format, producing the expected results.
