Microsoft Publisher not responding when starting a new file or opening an existing file

Since updating to the newest version of Windows (and Office possibly updating along with it, though I'm not sure), Microsoft Publisher has had trouble opening up. Whenever I open a file or try to start a new one, Publisher would go into "not responding" mode for approximately 10-15 seconds before the file finally opens.

I have Office 365 Personal installed on a Gen. 4 SSD, so it's fully updated and should open instantly. This is only happening to Publisher and none of the other Office programs.

I have already tried using Microsoft's Office repair tool. I have even uninstalled and reinstalled Office using that tool. The problem persists, which makes me believe that, for whatever reason, Publisher and only Publisher got messed up somewhere in the latest updates.

Same with me on Publisher. All other 365 applications open almost instantaneouly. Publisher takes 35 seconds. Have tried all of the above suggestions. I have used Publisher for years. Current laptop is a Dell, less than 6 months old, with 2T solid state drive, 64 RAM, and Intel i7 processor. Internet speeds over 400 MBPS. What's up MIcrosoft?

    Hi Da_boss

I'm Anna and I'd be happy to help you with your question.

Sorry for the trouble this might have caused, I will be asking a few questions and then providing answers along the way.

    1. Have you tried to open Publisher in Safe Mode?

Right-click the Start button Click Run In the Run box, type mspub /safe Click OK

Opening these apps in Office Safe Mode will enable you can see if there are add-ins that may be causing issues with launching the app.

Since this was caused by a Windows update, please try to run the Windows update troubleshooter and also the restore and repair system files

In the search box on the taskbar, type command prompt, then select Run as administrator from the list of options.

In the window that appears, type this command including spaces as shown: DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth

Press Enter. When the command operation has run successfully, you'll see a confirmation message from Command Prompt that says, “The restore operation completed successfully” or “The operation completed successfully”.
Note: If you don't see a confirmation message, retype the command and try again.

Next, type this command, including the space as shown: sfc /scannow

Press Enter. Wait until the sfc scan verification reaches 100% completion, and then close Command Prompt.

Also, you can revert to an earlier version of Office

I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    Anna

Sorry, it is taking too long to resolve. I will suggest a few more steps if you still have issues, then I would suggest we seek the opinions of others on the forum too.

    1. In Publisher go to File > Options > Advanced and check ‘disable hardware graphics acceleration.
    2. Disable add-ins.

Select File > Options > Add-ins. Choose the Go button under Manage near the bottom of the window to open the COM Add-ins dialog box. Clear the check boxes next to each add-in to disable all add-ins. Select OK to apply the changes and close the dialog box.
