Endnote Spacing (Word for Windows)

Hello Once More,

New Question. I have encountered a problem with Endnote Spacing in one of my documents. I want to have two spaces both above and below the Chapter number with the endnote number placed at the far left margin. I have previously been able to do something similar to this with my Chapter subheadings in the text. If I reconfigure the dialog box in the paragraph section to Centered, Level 2, None Spacing, 6 pt. up and down, Single after having tapped the Enter key to move the cursor, when I tap it again the cursor moves two lines down and centers. I write the sub heading and tap the Enter key again and the cursor moves two lines down and stays centered. If I then reconfigure the dialog box to Justified, Body Text, First Line 0.5, Single and click OK, the cursor moves to the left so I can start a new paragraph with the proper indentation two spaces below the sub heading. I thought this might be a good template to use since it incorporated the proper line spacing of two above and two below. However, when I tried this, I got the proper spacing of two lines above and below, but as soon as I entered an Endnote, the number appeared three spaces below instead of two. I tried various combinations, such as using Left instead of Centered and 6 pt up and 0 down but nothing works. Could I try doing just the two lines above with the Level 2 and then doing the two lines below separately as a Level 3? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

The style used for the Chapter number should be formatted with the required space before after it, NOT by the insertion of empty paragraphs.

The Chapter number is located on the Endnote page at the end of the document, centered two lines below the last endnote in the previous chapter.

    Hi Suzanne,

The first part of the post was just to show how and why I decided to try the chapter subheading as a template for what i was trying to accomplish in the Endnotes. I can't get the spacing below the Chapter number on the endnotes page to start with two spaces below the chapter number. When I insert the endnote it drops three spaces down instead of two. Maybe I over explained things. If so i apologize for the confusion.

I'm not clear what this has to do with endnotes, but you should be using one of Word's built-in heading styles for your chapter subheadings. You can format the style with the desired alignment (Center) and spacing Before and After (you should never create space between paragraphs by pressing Enter more than once). The "Style for following paragraph" (normally set to Normal for the built-in headings) can be set to Body Text or Body Text First Indent, modified to include your first-line indent and justification.
