I have a sixth generation iPad running iOS 15.5, and Word version 2.61. I noticed a couple weeks ago that the eraser tool was missing, but is present in Excel and PowerPoint. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Word, and cannot get it back. How can I get it? I have no easy way to erase drawings.

I had the same problem in MS Word on my iPad and just resolved it. I closed the Word document I was viewing (an older file I have used previously) and then created a new blank document on my iPad. When I did so the eraser device showed up on a new Draw toolbar. I closed the new file and reopened the same older document and the new toolbar appeared (including the eraser, an "ink to text" tool, 3 pens, 1 pencil, and 1 highlighter. It seems to be working correctly now so apparently I caused some sort of update to occur in the software?

    Hi Olivia,

Thank you for all your help; resetting my iPad and reinstalling Word did not reinstate the eraser, though it is still in Excel and PowerPoint, which is quite frustrating. I have submitted feedback in the app, and will do so again.

Once again, I appreciate all your help.

Hello Olivia, Thanks so much for your reply. 1. I occasionally attach my iPad to my Mac to back it up, but that's it. 2. These are documents that I've been using for a while, it's true, but I create new versions of it. I just created a new document on the iPad, and the eraser is also missing. It was also missing in other Word documents I had used, but they're gone since I uninstalled/reinstalled the app. I have also opened other new documents, and the eraser is also missing.  Please let me know if I can test anything else; I'm grateful for your help! I'm well, and I hope you are too. Stay safe. Jessica

Incidentally, I'm having the same problem with Word on my MacBook Air: I'm running Monterey 12.4, and Word 16.61. There was another user with the same problem that did not get resolved.

    Hello, Jessica,

Thank you for posting in this community. I understand that you are having issues with the eraser disappearing in Word.

I tested it on a ninth-generation iPad with iOS 15.5 and Word version 2.61, and the eraser was intact.

To help us further isolate this issue, we’d like to ask the following questions:

    1. Is there any external device connected to your iPad?
    2. Is your current Word document sent to you or created by yourself? Incompatibilities may occur if the document format is older.

The above questions can help us determine whether it is a problem with the specific model. If it is an issue with a specific model, we will submit the issue to Microsoft once we have collected the relevant information.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation in working closely with me on this issue.

Hope you are keeping safe and well.

    Best Regards

Olivia | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
