please help me figure out how to save a work doc from 365 suite to my desk top so i can work offline

    You may consider to 'save as' your working file to local drive such as 'documents', in the meantime sync to OneDrive (By default) once you connected to network again

    Open the document and then go to the File Tab of the Ribbon and use Save As, or Save a Copy and save the document to a folder on your local drive.

    Note that in many cases the Desktop may be synchronized with OneDrive so saving it to the Desktop will not accomplish want you need. Better to create a folder on the C: drive by right clicking on C:\ in the file explorer and then on New>Folder and then give the new folder a name of your choice.
