Endnote Continuation Separator

Windows 11 - Word - Office Home and Student 2019

I can delete the Endnote Separator by: View/Draft/References/Show Notes/Endnotes but I cannot do it for the Endnote Continuation Separator. The Continuation Separator line cannot be selected: it is dead.

Thanks from Germany.

Copying content into a new, blank document, as you have found, is often effective to flush out undesired formatting (and also to flush out document corruption).

However, taking a second look at your screen shot, the line could be a paragraph border, which you should be able to remove via the Borders and Shading dialog box.

Click at the beginning of the endnote continuation separator and press Delete. Sometimes you have to press Delete twice (because the first time the separator becomes selected).

Thank you for your patience. When I copy a part of the text (the stretch has to be long enough, so that there are at least two pages of Endnotes) to a new file there is no problem with deleting! Apparently there is something strange in the original file - which was put together by adding stretches from another file (which was OK).

Therefore I do not think that your proposal could be useful.

I have read that these problems can be solved with VBA code:

    https://www.extendoffice.com/documents/word/5515-word-remove-line-from-footnote.html

I tried it but it did not work.

The only solution seems to be to start a new file and copy the old stretch by stretch, checking conntinuously that the separator lines either do not appear or can be deleted.

Are you able to share the document so that I can have a closer look?

You can upload the document, or a representative sample, to (say) OneDrive or Dropbox and post a share link in this thread.
