I have reviewed the business letter templates, which are found in Word. I tried to modify one but I can not remover the gold boarder. I am now trying to create my own template with my name and address in a text box with in the header on the first page. When I click on Text Box either in the ribbon or on the menu bar I am not given the option of drawing the text box;, only "Text Box" or "Draw Vertical Text Box". I can not get a cursor to appear in either of these choices;

    As I wrote in that reply, the tutorial is based on Word for Windows & requires a little interpretation in order to adapt the instructions to Mac Word. As others have pointed out, the image you referred to is an earlier Word for Windows design. The key factor is the Header & Footer contextual tab which is not identical to the current Windows counterpart.

    Your tab may look something like this:

    Image

    Word 2007 and 2010 had an additional tab labelled Design that appeared under the Header and Footer Tools Tab. That has faded away in the Windows versions. I don't know that it ever was present in Word 2008 or 2011 on the Mac.

    This is a contextual tab, one that you see when editing a header or footer.

    The basic ideas are that you can put things in your header or footer which are larger than the usual header or footer, that extend into or are in the body area, even though in the header or footer. You can have a different header/footer for the first page of a section.

    The secret is putting your letterhead elements in the header (and footer).

    I agree with Bob that Setting Up Letter Templates - Ribbon by Suzanne Barnhill, MVP is the place to start.

    In my opinion, you want letterhead information in continuation pages as well as on the first page, but different information.

    This is the definitive tutorial on the subject by long-time MVP Suzanne Barnhill. It's based on the Windows version but readily can be interpreted for Mac Word:

    “How to set up a letter template”—how to create a letterhead (Word 2007 and above), have different margins on the first page, set up letter styles, etc.

    Thanks very helpful, but I need help finding the Page number icon on the Letterhead for a multi-page letter. The drop-down does not give me a current page option. I created a template, but the first-page header appears on the second and subsequent pages. Can I change this so the first-page header only appears on the first page?
