How do I stop Word making my bulleted list italics every time? Also, how can I set the default indent to something other than .63cm please?

When I click the bullet icon to make a bulleted list, Word now makes it italics. Also, I'd like to adjust Word settings so the default indent for paragraphs & bulleted lists for example is something other than .63cm.

For more on using the Define New MultiLevel List dialog for this see: How to control bullets in Ribbon Versions of Word by Shauna Kelly. It will give you the most stable bullet formatting.

Bulleted and numbered lists created using the buttons in the Paragraph group on the Home tab use the List Paragraph style, which can be modified but not satisfactorily. Instead, apply a bulleted style such as List Bullet (Ctrl+Shift+L) and modify that style to have the formatting you want. Note that the indent must be set in the Adjust List Indents or Define New Multilevel List dialog. The latter dialog gives you much more control even for a single-level list because you can link the formatting to a specific style.

    Hi Lisa K,

My name is Louis and I am an independent Advisor.

Go to File > Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options and click the "AutoFormat As You Type" tab of the dialog. (Not the one that's just "AutoFormat".) Clear the check box in the last section for "Format beginning of list item like the one before it"

    Hopefully, this helps.

    Thanks & Best Regards, Louis
