Your screenshots are of Word and Excel Online, the web browser versions.

If you haven't already installed the desktop applications, visit the Services & subscriptions page of your Microsoft account. Click on the bar that says Install premium Office apps (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and more) on your PC or Mac. Download the installer and run it to install the desktop versions of Office.

Feel free to post again if you're still having problems accessing your Office 2016 files on your computer.

Within Word, use File > Open.

Find the file and open it.

    Hello Chris:

Thank you for your help; I need your help.

I feel so bad about Microsoft 365 that I am considering canceling my subscription.

I will try to be objective about my problem, and please, I apologize for my English, I am from Mexico and english is not my native languge.

    1. All the files created with my old version of Office 2016 can not be opened by Microsoft 365 (M365). I will paste graphics of this issues at the end of this replay.
    2. I use click right button of mouse over the file, and select "open with" but I the system does not show any Office aplication
    3. If I open Word, or Excel from the M365 menu and I try to open a file in my hard drive of the laptop, I do not have any disply of my hard disk directories, it is not shown in the laptopt screen, I am blinded to see my files from my hard disk, I can see only files from the OneDrive.
    4. If I create a Word file or Excel and try to save to my hard disk, my hard disk is not shown, It is imposible to save any file to my laptop's hard disk.

In the 99% of my work, I need to save, open, close files in my hard disk, but NOT on the OneDrive.

Please I need your advise to correct all this issues, and if is not posible then I will cancel my suscrition to M365, I was much happy before to contract the Microsoft 365.

    Regards

    Juan Trinidad

If you add Word to the Send To menu, it will be available when you right-click on any file. To add Word:

    1. Open a File Explorer window.
    2. Paste this into the address bar, then press Return:
      %appdata%\Microsoft\Windows\SendTo
    3. Paste or drag a shortcut to the Word application.

Then, in use, right-click on an RTF or other file, choose Send To>Word.

    Hello Juan V,

Welcome to Microsoft Community and hope you are doing great today!

I'm Chris Jordan and I'd be glad to assist you with the questions.

Concerning your query, you can try to use WordPad to open and save text files (. txt), rich text files (. rtf), Word documents (. docx), and OpenDocument text files, you can also try to change the Word format, you can open the existing text file in either Wordpad or Word program by Pressing CTRL+O and browsing to the folder where text file is. Select it and open it. After opening, Save As *. docx to convert into Word format.

Your kind understanding is highly appreciated. Stay safe and healthy always. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to send them back.

    Best regards,

    Chris Jordan
