No, it's simply not possible what you want to do. Excel is not designed to work that way.

A simple workaround is to use a formula (type = in the destination cell, switch to the other sheet, select the source cell, press ENTER).

Drag the formula as far as needed. Finally remove the filter, select the cells, copy & paste as values to remove the formulas.

    Andreas.

    Hi Anna,

Despite having the exact same number of rows as I am copying to and from I get this error when I try to paste:

    Hi Anna,

I think you have misunderstood what I am asking.

I have 1200 rows on a spread sheet and I have this filtered to show only 246 of those rows. I want to paste to only those 246 rows. when I attempt to do this it pastes into the hidden cells even when I use the go to special visible cells only method.

    Thank you,

    Emma

Thank you for your responses so far, much appreciated

If the filters are being applied as I would like to using the visible cells only both columns are 246 rows from source to target.

It seems to me that excel isn't recognising the rows in my target are filtered despite selecting visible cells only.

    Hi Emma

I'm AnnaThomas and I'd be happy to help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

To paste data from one sheet to another sheet and exclude hidden cells, you can try the following steps:

Copy the data you want to paste.

Select the target range where you want to paste the data in the second sheet.

Go to the "Home" tab in the Excel ribbon, click on the "Find & Select" button and select "Go To Special".

In the Go To Special dialog box, select the "Visible cells only" option and click OK.

This will select only the visible cells in the target range, allowing you to paste the data without including the hidden cells.

Finally, paste the data using the desired paste option.

Note: If the hidden cells in the target range are part of a filtered list, you'll need to first clear the filter before using the "Go To Special" method. To clear the filter, go to the "Data" tab, click on the "Sort & Filter" button and select "Clear".

I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    AnnaThomas
