Two-sided print keeps printing blank page

Driving me nuts! Printing a 7 page word doc I typed and when I print two-sided it pulls the first page and prints nothing, then flips it over and then prints page 1 and proceeds on as normal. The print preview does not show anything out of the ordinary like a blank page? Windows 10 HP desktop and printer. BTW when I sent the doc to my ipad and opened it in 365 and printed the same doc it printed fine on two sides. HP printer scan doctor shows print driver up to date and no issues

Could some option to print blank pages between printouts be enabled in the printer settings?

Normally, you shouldn't see any added blank pages unless the page numbering is restarting somewhere in the document (following a section break) and if the "Mirror margins" or "Different odd and even" or both options are enabled in Page Setup.

[EDIT: The following post is completely wrong. Please ignore it.]

The setting that causes this is in the Page Setup dialog, which you can open by going to File > Print and clicking the Page Setup link at the bottom of the settings. It's also available by double-clicking the horizontal ruler, or by clicking the launcher arrow in the bottom right of the Page Setup group on the Layout ribbon.

If you choose Mirror margins in the Multiple pages dropdown, Word will force all odd-numbered pages to be on the right side of each two-page layout, and all even-numbered pages on the left side (this is the standard publishing convention). Since there is no even page before page 1, Word prints a blank, although there's nothing in Print Layout view to indicate that. (If you set the zoom of the preview on the File > Print page small enough to display two pages at a time, you'll see page 1 alone on the right; then pages 2 and 3 together, etc.)

Instead of Mirror margins, choose the Normal setting in the dropdown. That will print page 1 on the front of the first sheet, page 2 on the back of the sheet, then page 3 on the second sheet and so on.

    Hi TjMelton,

I'm Tim, an Independent Consultant here and a Microsoft user like you. I don't work for Microsoft and do not have access to any of your data on their system.

So essentially using the iPad and the same printer results in printing the document fine with no issues?

If so, this would indicate an issue with the driver on your computer. I can see that you mention the driver is up to date but have you tried simply uninstalling the printer and then reinstalling?

    Kind regards

    Tim

This doesn't make sense to me. I have no trouble duplexing documents with mirror margins. Page 1 is always the front of the first page.

    You're right. Carry on.
