Accessing the new Automate feature in Excel

Today I received a notice (see URL below) from techcommunity.microsoft.com introducing a new Automate feature in Excel and providing a screenshot to the new “Automate” tab between “View” and “Help” tabs on the uppermost command line.  I could not pursue this further because the Automate Tab does not appear in my Excel at all.  I contacted Microsoft Support and a very helpful assistant named Kirti let me through a fix process starting with Quick Assist so that Kirti to access my screen.  This did not work after trying two access codes, so Kirti directed me to open Excel and go to File/Account and download updates which I did.  At the end of downloading the updates, the system instructed me to close Excel and then reopen it, which I did, but unfortunately the Automate tab still did not appear.  Kirti then asked me to send this message to you. I hope it helps correct the problem as Automate could be useful to me.

    Hello,

I have a paid Microsoft 365 Family Subscription, which appears not to qualify for the Automate Feature in Excel.

    Two questions:

    1. When will the Automate feature become available for Microsoft 365 Family subscribers?
    2. If the feature is not planned to become available for Microsoft 365 Family subscriptions, what Windows version of Microsoft 365 includes Automate, and how does one upgrade to that version?

    Thanks very much,

    Dan

The Automate feature in Microsoft Excel is part of the Microsoft Power Automate platform and allows users to automate repetitive tasks and create custom workflows.

To access the Automate feature in Excel, you need to have a Microsoft 365 subscription that includes Power Automate.

Here are the steps to access the Automate feature in Excel:

    1. Open your Microsoft Excel workbook.
    2. Click the "Data" tab in the ribbon.
    3. In the "Data Tools" section, click the "Automate" button.
    4. Select the type of flow you want to create.
    5. Fill out the required information for your flow and follow the on-screen prompts to complete the setup process.

Note: If you don't have a Microsoft 365 subscription that includes Power Automate, you can sign up for a free trial to access the Automate feature.

What is your office version? It's in Version 2302 (Build 16029.20000 Click-to-Run) - Beta channel Microsoft 365 enterprise subscription.

    Hi Steve

The information you posted (System + Windows) won't help at this depends on your 365 & OneDrive subcriptions before everything else

From Automate your tasks with the Automate tab - now in Excel for Windows and Mac intro.:

The Automate tab is growing beyond your web browser and onto your desktop! Starting today, the Automate tab is now available for all eligible users in Excel for Windows and Mac

What Nancy didn't mention is who's eligible and the answer is on page Office Scripts in Excel para. Requirements (I have a 365 & OneDrive Personal subscription which means I'm currently not eligible)

    Other consideration

As new Microsoft 365 features become available, they are sometimes rolled out over a period of time to all subscribers. In other words, it might take week(s) before a new feature/functionnality reaches your Office installation - see When do I get the newest features for Microsoft 365?
