Managing citations using superscript numbers

I'm using the format of superscript numbers tagging sources when citing for my essay. The trouble is I'm adding text in a nonlinear fashion so keep having to rearrange the numbers. Is there a better way to do this? The citations system seems to insert it as names in the text. I'm using Mendeley to manage my citations.

Thanks

It sounds like what you really need is not endnotes but a numbered reference list. See https://wordmvp.com/FAQs/Formatting/FootnoteFAQ.htm#AlphaEndnotes
