Hi @David Lambert ,

Hard faults are also known as page faults. Despite the negative connotation of the name, this is not an error condition. Rather, it represents an instance where a block of memory needed by the operating system or an application has to be fetched from the page file on the hard disk instead of from physical memory. A consistently high number of hard faults per second indicates a large—perhaps excessive—reliance on virtual memory, with consequent adverse performance effects.

I provide a list of my AMD devices below, all 40 and below/second all day every day. Would it be possible to give a number rather than 'a high value' of these faults? Is it 1000 or 10? I have 5 AMD devices and as far as I know all of them show more than 20 but less than 50 hard faults per second every time I look at them. 2 Bee-Link (30/sec), 1 Dell ( varies between 28-30), 1 Lenovo (30) and 1 Asus (40).

Your answer is not entirely correct. I have the same problem, and I have virtual memory paging turned off. Microsoft doesn't know how to manage virtual memory, should only be used when real RAM is exhausted. Instead, they use it all the time if it is on, making things slow, so I put RAM in the box and turn paging off.

I have 16GB in this box, and even at pracitcally zero RAM usage, it gives 100/sec page faults. CHKDSK verify the C: drive is fine (no errors whatsoever). Once again, Microsoft doesn't know anything about actually writing an O/S.

In fact, if I use more than 6GB of the 16GB, commit memory goes to 7-8/16 and windows will panic, freeze chrome and wipe out the video driver, leaving me with a black-screen from which I can only power-cycle in order to get the system back- losing anything unsaved in the process.

Did you know that Microsoft limits all internet bandwidth in Windows to 100MB? It's true. You have to turn of auto-tuning in order to get the full bandwidth of your 1GB NIC.

Again- Microsoft has never actually written any O/S. Not even DOS.

Microsoft's article is misleading because not all page faults are hard faults. Saying Hard faults are also known as page faults is like saying that smartphones are also known as computers.
