Excel freezes when saving a new file to Sharepoint.

Hello,

I am experiencing an issue when saving a new Excel sheet to our SharePoint site, Excel freezes. This happens with either starting a new sheet or opening one that was just downloaded from an email. When I click Save As and navigate to our company SharePoint site to save, once I click save Excel will freeze and never become responsive again. I can close Excel when frozen by hovering over it in the task bar and click the X or ending the task in task manager.

A few things I've done to investigate/fix this issue are:

  • disable COM add-ins
  • Open Excel in safe mode
  • Repair Microsoft 365 Apps
  • Uninstall and Reinstall Microsoft 365 Apps
  • Saving a new Word doc to SharePoint will also freeze but not permanently. After a minute it'll start working again.
  • Opening, editing, and saving a Excel sheet that is already in the SharePoint works fine
  • Saving excel sheet to hard drive works fine

Computer is a newer HP laptop with Windows 11 Pro installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    First, please accept my Apologies for the inconvenience caused to you by this behavior.

    It seems the problem happened when you click "Save As" and navigate to your company SharePoint site to save. May I know if my understanding is correct?

    May I know have you tried other methods to save work document file into your SharePoint online document library site via sync your SharePoint online document library to create/save files in OneDrive sync folder file Explorer?

    It seems you tried all the troubleshooting steps, but the same problem persists.  I think this issue might be raised by your local environment (Settings, Registry).

    Given this situation, I would suggest you follow the methods below and see if they could help in your scenario:

    1.Perform aClean Boot under your Windows, and check if issue persist.

    2. Maybe the local settings had affected the application. Thus, we would like you to check whether the issue is related to your user profile. In this situation, we suggest you Create a new user account under your Windows 11 and see if any improvement. It is worth trying because it will help you narrow down whether the issue is caused by a specific corrupted user profile.

    In the meantime, to confirm whether this is a bug in a specific version, please provide us the version information. To check version: Open Excel>File>Account>Product Information and capture a full screenshot and share here and we will be tested on that version and verify the result with you.
