Switch from MS365 to Office 2021 without losing files

I purchased Office 2021 with a new computer. However, a friend set up my PC to use MS 365. I have been using Word and Excel and have many files in MS365.

I want to switch to using Office 2021 already installed. How can I do this without losing my files?

Thanks for any assistance.

If you cancel Microsoft 365, you'll lose the 1 TB of OneDrive storage that comes with it.

If you stored your documents/workbooks etc. on OneDrive, you have two options:

    1. Buy OneDrive storage separately and move all your documents etc. there.
    2. Move all your documents etc. to local folders on your hard disk that are not synchronized with OneDrive.

If you already store your documents locally on your computer, just make sure that the folders containing the documents are not synchronized with OneDrive.

    Hello ZRNKE,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I am a Microsoft user just like you, I hope you are doing well?

Office 2021 license does not have OneDrive storage, If you intend to switch to Office 2021 then you will need to purchase OneDrive subscription or backup your files to your PC locally to avoid losing them when you cancel or discontinue your Microsoft 365 subscription .

Please let me know if you need more assistance.
