I have previously purchased a 5-seat subscription to Office 365. I have previously loaded 1 copy on Windows 10 and get the desktop applications that I am accustomed to using. I now have a new laptop running Windows 11 Home and seem to only be able to load the web-based version of office. How do I install the desktop app so I can attach the Outlook .PST files I keep for record?

HI James T

To install the desktop app of Microsoft Office on your new laptop running Windows 11 Home, you can follow these steps:

  1. Sign in to your Microsoft account associated with your Office 365 subscription.
  2. Go to the Office website and click on the "Install Office" button.
  3. Select "Install Office apps".
  4. Click on "Other install options".
  5. Select "Version" and choose the 32-bit or 64-bit version of Office depending on your laptop's operating system.
  6. Click on "Install" to start the download of the Office installer.
  7. Once the download is complete, open the installer and follow the on-screen instructions to install the Office desktop applications.
  8. After the installation is complete, open Outlook and import the PST file that you kept for record.

By following these steps, you should be able to install the desktop app of Microsoft Office on your Windows 11 Home laptop and use Outlook to attach your PST files.

BEST REGARDS, SEGUNFUNMI

Thanks for the tip for creating a shortcut pinned to the Taskbar.

For people who perform consulting work, it's not uncommon for a contract requirement to prohibit the storage of any sensitive information off-site. Methods for synching data across multiple devices rely on storing information "in the cloud" (OneDrive) where it can be viewed from multiple devices, as long as they have a network connection.

The use of PST files in Outlook also provides a facility to separate communication records for multiple different customers separately. In Outlook early history, PST or similar files were the only way to store emails locally and there used to be limits on the size of the files, leading to the need to have multiple files to store years worth of information.

You access the MS Account used in the purchase to install

    https://office.com/myaccount

Then in the win search for; Outlook > Resulting shortcut >Rt click > Pin to tak bar, start OL from that shortcut

It would be unusual to use pop/pst data as that will not sync between devices
