Remove =EMBED("","") from multiple pictures or objects in excel

I have lots of pictures in a file and can't auto save due to them being embedded. I don't want to remove the pics, I want to remove the status. I know I can copy and paste them one by one but that would take a long time. I also tried to select a few and copy paste, but they were then joined and no good for the table.

    Hi,

I'm Sneha and I'd be happy to help you out with your question. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

If you have lots of pictures in an Excel file that are embedded and you're unable to auto save due to their status, there is a solution to remove the embedded object status without having to remove the pictures themselves.

To do this, you can use a series of steps that will help you select all the embedded objects in the worksheet and remove the status. Once you've completed this, you can then paste the objects back into their original cells.

    Here are the steps:

    • Select all the cells in the worksheet by pressing "Ctrl + A".
    • Click on the "Find & Select" button in the "Editing" group of the "Home" tab and select "Go To Special".
    • In the "Go To Special" dialog box, select "Objects" and click "OK".
    • Right-click on any of the selected objects and choose "Cut" from the context menu.
    • Press "Ctrl + H" to open the "Find and Replace" dialog box.
    • In the "Find what" field, type "=EMBED("")".
    • Leave the "Replace with" field blank.
    • Click "Replace All" to remove the embedded object status from all the selected objects.
    • Press "Ctrl + V" to paste the objects back into their original cells.

Once you've completed these steps, you should be able to save your Excel file without any issues.

Unfortunatly, this didn't work either. At first it seemed to work just fine and I can also return the pics to automatic color, however, when I select an individual picture, the =embed is still there. There might not be a way to remove it fast at all. I also tried to copy and paste special as Microsoft Office drawing object, but again each picture still retains the =embed.

Maybe I need an add-on of some sort to edit the pictures proper. If you have any other ideas, let me know. On the plus side I have learned a few things with the ideas so far.

Found a solution using excel and word.

    Here are the steps:

    • Right-click on an object and choose "Grouping then Ungroup.
    • Select yes and resize object if needed.
    • Click on the "Find & Select" button in the "Editing" group of the "Home" tab and select "Go To Special".
    • In the "Go To Special" dialog box, select "Objects" and click "OK".
    • Right-click on the same object and choose "Copy" from the context menu.
    • Right-click on Word and under Paste Options, select Use Destination Theme.
    • Once pasted they should be selected so Copy.
    • In Excel, Press Delete to remove old Objects.
    • Right-click on Word and under Paste Options, select Use Destination Theme.

    Hi,

I'm Sneha and I'd be happy to help you out with your question. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

I apologize for any confusion caused by the previous solution. Based on the issues you're facing, it appears that the pictures in your Excel file may be in an imported object format, which can sometimes cause problems with removing the "=EMBED()" status.

Here is an alternative solution you can try:

    1. Select the pictures you want to modify.
    2. Right-click on one of the pictures and select "Format Picture".
    3. In the "Format Picture" pane, select the "Picture" tab.
    4. Under the "Image Control" section, find the "Color" dropdown and choose "Grayscale".
    5. Click "Close" to close the "Format Picture" pane.
    6. Right-click on the picture again and select "Copy".
    7. Right-click on a different cell and select "Paste".
    8. Repeat steps 6-7 for all the pictures you want to modify.

This should remove any "=EMBED()" status from the pictures and allow you to save your Excel file without any issues. However, please note that this method will convert the pictures to grayscale.

If you're still having trouble with the pictures being imported objects, you may need to convert them to Microsoft Office drawing objects to remove the embedded data or linked information. Please note that this may cause some loss of data.

If you have any other questions or need assistance with anything, please don't hesitate to let me know. It will be my pleasure to Assist you.

    Best Regards, Sneha

I appriciate the help, however, I couldn't get it to work. After selecting and cutting the images, the replace brought up this message.

We couldn't find anything to replace. Click Options for more ways to search. It also mentioned protection so I double checked but I never use protection on my files. It is not sensitive data. I use excel for game data to help with gaming.

I uploaded the file for you to take a look if you want. I wondering if group has something to do with these pictures as I can right click a pic at a time and ungroup it and it gives me this.

This is an imported object, not a group. If you convert it to a Microsoft Office drawing object, embedded data or linked information will be lost.

This works one by one but most pics seem to need shrinking then. I also noticed in the top left each pic says Object#
