Why do I have to "post" my comment in Review?

In the latest iteration of MS Word (Mac version 16.71), when commenting under the review tab, it requires me to "post" my comment. This used to be automatic but now I have to click an arrow next to the comment on the right side bar.

Is there a way to get rid of this and simplify?

Modern Comments is one of Microsoft's latest brain children. Most response is similar to yours... Use Help> Feedback to express your opinion but I'm afraid its here to stay. It seems to still be under construction, though, so perhaps it will improve in time.

The Preference Stefan mentioned can be found in Word> Preferences - General where you can clear the check to Enable Modern Comments. The Classic Comments feature will be restored but existing Modern Comments won't be converted.

I HATE this. Why do you keep adding more and more required keystrokes? Most of my use of word is NOT coauthoring and this just slows me down. Please make these so-called "improvements" optional!!!!!!

Word 98 was the peak of efficiency and usability for authors. It has been a steady deterioration ever since - it now takes me about 30% longer to do almost everything I want to do. This is NOT improvement, it is making the 80% or people who use Word for their own work conform to the 20% who work in a corporate office setting.

This is an aspect of what Microsoft has introduced as Modern Comments. It cannot be avoided but you can use the keyboard shortcut Command+return rather than having to click.

For the time being you can go to Word> Preferences - General then clear the check for Enable Modern Comments to restore the old behavior. However, that capability is supposed to be withdrawn at some time in the future. Don't hesitate to use Help> Send Feedback to express your opinion.

    Hi Watson

I'm AnnaThomas and I'd happily help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

This is a new feature in the latest version of MS Word called “modern comments”. It gives you better control over what you post. In the previous behavior, comments were committed as you typed.

This meant that any collaborators on a shared document could see your comment before it was complete. With modern comments, you can review and edit your comments before committing them. You can also use the keyboard shortcut Cmd + Enter to post comments.

Unfortunately, there is no way to revert to the old behavior.

I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    AnnaThomas
