Hello. In Word I have "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" unchecked yet every time I copy an email address and paste it the address always has the hyperlink. Does anyone know what's going on with this? This only started when I recently upgraded to Windows 11. In EXCEL there's no problem, only with Word. Thx for any help.

Thank you for letting me know that you have already unchecked the "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" option, and that the issue is still occurring. In that case, it may be helpful to try disabling the automatic hyperlink feature in Word completely. Here's how to do that:

    1. Click on the "File" tab in Word.
    2. Click on "Options".
    3. Click on "Proofing" in the left-hand menu.
    4. Click on "AutoCorrect Options" in the main window.
    5. Click on the "AutoFormat As You Type" tab.
    6. Uncheck the box next to "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks".
    7. Click on the "AutoFormat" tab.
    8. Uncheck the box next to "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks".
    9. Click "OK" to save your changes.

This should prevent Word from automatically creating hyperlinks for email addresses and other types of internet and network paths.

If you have any other questions or need assistance with anything, please don't hesitate to let me know. It will be my pleasure to Assist you.

Hi Sneha, thanks for your reply. Yes, as can be seen in the attachment, I already have "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks" unchecked and yet the issue continues. And yes, I am aware that I can always right-click on the email address and click "Remove hyperlink" but that's another step that I don't always want to have to perform. If the system was working properly and doing what its supposed to do this second step wouldn't even be necessary. Thanks again for your time. Best Regards -

    Hi,

I'm Sneha and I'd be happy to help you out with your question. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

This is a common issue that can be easily resolved by disabling the relevant AutoFormat option.

To do this, first click on the "File" tab in Word, then select "Options" from the dropdown menu. Next, click on "Proofing" in the left-hand menu, followed by "AutoCorrect Options" in the main window. From there, select the "AutoFormat As You Type" tab and uncheck the box next to "Internet and network paths with hyperlinks". Finally, click "OK" to save your changes.

If you find that the hyperlinks persist even after turning off this option, you can also try manually removing the hyperlink from the email address by right-clicking on the selected text and choosing "Remove Hyperlink" from the context menu.

AutoFormat As You Type applies only to text you type, not text that is pasted. If the email address you paste is already a link, it will remain a link, but pasting as plain text should work. Is that not working?
