Could you please follow below steps to insert a Excel Spreadsheet into OneNote?
If you create the excel first from OneNote and start editing after opening from the excel app,
- The added comments gets moved to excel spreadsheet and retained.
- The data added into excel can be searched

To add an excel,
- Go to Insert on the Menu and select the Tables
- Click On "New Excel Spreadsheet"
- It will insert a new spread sheet on the OneNote page and if you double click on that, it will open the excel in new Window
- You can save and maintain the excel within OneNote.
