How to stop Onedrive and Dropbox from syncing

Hello,

I use Onedrive for personal use. It came pre-installed on my windows laptop. I use Dropbox for work. I've installed that onto my laptop as well.

My Problem:

Onedrive has uploaded my entire Dropbox folder. I do not want my work files in Onedrive.

What download location should I put Dropbox, so it does not sync with Onedrive. Or what should I do, so that my 2 storage applications are completely separate.

Thank you!

If you can move Dropbox anywhere then I suggest you put it here:

    C:\Users\username\Dropbox.

    OneDrive is located here:

    C:\Users\username\OneDrive.

So both of them will be located in your username folder. They will stay separate from each other.

OneDrive can grab your Documents, Desktop, Pictures, Music, and Videos folders, syncing them to OneDrive. So don't put Dropbox in those locations.

From our conversations I would like to list some steps, you can follow to move your Dropbox files away from OneDrive:

Sign in to your OneDrive account and locate the Dropbox folder.

Select all the files in the Dropbox folder, then right-click and choose "Copy" or (Ctrl+C), which you can also use the move option if you tech savvy.

Navigate to the new location where you want to move the Dropbox files to, I would recommend that you use Documents

Right-click in the new location and choose "Paste" or (Ctrl+V).

This might take some time, but you will see a display of your files being moved to the new location.

Once the files have finished copying, you can delete the Dropbox folder from your OneDrive account. Right-click on the folder and choose "Delete" or use the keyboard shortcut (Shift+Delete).

Note: If you have Dropbox installed on your computer, you will need to make sure that the Dropbox folder is also moved to the new location on your computer. This will ensure that any new files added to your Dropbox folder are synced to the correct location

I hope this help clarifies in detail what needs to be done. so that your Dropbox folder can remain the same.

    Hi,

I'm Taiwo and I'd be happy to help you with your question. In this Forum, We are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

I totally understand you don't want or need OneDrive, the best solution would be to move your dropbox away from the OneDrive, you can put in your regular document

Or better still follow the link below to turn off your OneDrive, which would have solved the issue and your dropbox would be perfectly fine.

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/turn-off-disable-or-uninstall-onedrive-f32a17ce-3336-40fe-9c38-6efb09f944b0#:~:text=Under%20PC%20settings%2C%20select%20OneDrive,Automatically%20upload%20videos%20to%20OneDrive.

I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards, Thank You.

    Hi Taiwo,

Thanks for replying... I still need the Onedrive, since I use the same laptop for work and personal.

So how do I move the Dropbox away from Onedrive while still keeping both applications working?

    Thanks!
