When I create new Excel 2021 workbooks, they will not save in Dropbox. I go through the Save As steps, put in a file name, but it does not save and the workbook still shows as "Book 1". I can save file to my Desktop, upload it to Dropbox and work on it from my local Dropbox folder and save all edits and changes. But I am unable to create and save new workbooks.
I can create and save new Word documents. Print to PDF saves just fine to Dropbox. But, not Excel 2021.
I use Windows 11
Any thoughts?
Thanks.

I have always had the folder set to keep online (except for taking it offline for testing out these error messages). This just started happening recently, it had been working fine up to that point. And I've been using the same Dropbox setup for years. I thought it might be something in my Excel settings since there are no problems with other applications and file types.
Do you have the folder set to keep offline? I get that message fairly often if the file is online only, especially if its very large and takes more than a split second to download (or Dropbox is busy syncing other files.)
uninstall and reinstall Dropbox.
Definitely not something I like doing. I have more than 500,000 files in it and it takes forever to resync, even with online option enabled. After everything syncs, then I can set folders to keep offline.
Hi Diane,
Yes, new Word files save to Dropbox with no problem. I can also create and/or save PDF files to Dropbox with no issues. Dropbox is added as a place. Sometimes I receive this error message, sometimes not. It never saves as Book 1. It just doesn't save as all. If I quit Dropbox, the file will save locally just fine. Then I restart Dropbox and it uploads and syncs with no problems. This is only for newly-created Excel files.
If I open an existing Excel file in Dropbox, I can make changes and the edits will save with no issues. Perplexing. I've opened a similar thread on Dropbox, but no solution. My next step will probably be to uninstall and reinstall Dropbox. If that doesn't do it, I'll uninstall and reinstall Excel, I guess.
Thank you for responding...
Ronni
Hello Ronni
Do you receive any error messages when you try to save it to the Dropbox folders?
Did you add Dropbox as place?
Can you save it as Book 1?
Word can save as to Dropbox, correct?
For what it's worth, it is working as expected here, whether I use the Dropbox place button or browse to the Dropbox folder.
