Preview Languages for Dictate - why are only some of them available in Android?

I have been using one of the Preview Languages for Dictation in Word on my desktop, and in Word for the Web. Today, I decided to try it out in Office 365 on my Android phone, but the list of Preview languages is different, and it doesn't include the language that I speak.

I thought that these languages were processed in the Cloud, so the list of languages should be the same on all platforms, but that doesn't seem to be the case.

Is there anywhere that I can get more information on what preview languages are available on different platforms, and if and when my phone will offer the language that I can currently use in the web client?

Please stop embarrassing yourself by demonstrating that you don't know the functionality of these products, and that you can't even bother taking the time to check before posting disinformation.

The free, browser based version of Office 365 does support Dictation. Office 365 Subscribers can even access Transcription in the Browser version, a function that isn't yet available in the Desktop version, which only supports Dictation.

Language packs are obviously not relevant to Cloud based services (such as Office 365 Dictation), and that's why Office 365 can offer a vastly wider selection of Dictation languages than the Windows itself supports.

Let me repeat the question that I actually asked:

"Is there anywhere that I can get more information on what preview languages are available on different platforms, and if and when my phone will offer the language that I can currently use in the web client?"

If you can't actually answer that question, then please don't waste my time writing a non-answer.

I had already searched for information about why some Preview Languages were not available on my phone, so I had already found and read the documents that you referred to before posting my question. I asked my question because those documents don't make any reference to the languages available in Office 365 on Android - in fact the only one of the documents that you link to that even mentions Android predates the availability of Dictation in Office 365 on Android.

I will also point out that you linked to the document "Dictate your documents in Word". The obviously more relevant document "Dictate your documents in Word Mobile" (https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/office/dictate-your-documents-in-word-mobile-155b64d2-0722-4d97-8190-066c695efb3b#Tab=Android) gives exactly the same list of Preview Languages for Word Mobile as the list for Word on Windows or MacOS. Both of those documents also say that you need a "reliable internet connection", which is why I assumed that the real work is being done in the cloud, and therefore "differences in hardware capabilities" or "differences in the availability of certain language models" aren't an obvious explanation for the non-availability of certain languages in Word on Mobile.

Once again I'm reminded how utterly pointless it is to look for help or advice on "answers".microsoft.com.

    Hello,

Preview languages in Office 365 are handled in the cloud, but differences in hardware or software capabilities, or differences in the availability of certain language models, can be possible explanations for unavailability. The preview is currently only available on Windows and is not yet available in browser sessions. Language Accessory Packs are available for Microsoft 365, which allow users to select the language they want to use in Microsoft 365 applications. Language packs can be deployed by administrators using the Deployment Tool. Canvas, a learning management system, also allows users to change the language preference in their user account.

Differences in hardware or software capabilities, or differences in the availability of certain language models, can be possible explanations for unavailability of preview languages. For example, if a device does not have the necessary hardware or software to support a particular language model, that language may not be available for preview. Additionally, if a language model is not available in the cloud, it may not be available for preview. This can also be affected by the version of the software being used, as some features may not be available in older versions. Finally, errors in file types or missing theme files can also cause preview errors.

Unfortunately, I don't have any further troubleshooting to offer.

    Thanks, Sneha
