I need Microsoft to reinstall purchase made through Dell with new PC

In 2022 I bought a brand-new PC I built through Dell. INCLUDED in that purchase was Office Home and Student (not 365). The computer was shipped with Office preinstalled, and I first used it in March of last year. Dell does not provide its buyers with the activation code because its activated at the factory, but it shows as a line item on their invoice.

On Thursday, Windows insisted on installing the March 2023 Update. So I did the update. What resulted from the update was it made the computer unusable. After HOURS on the phone with Dell (and after reading that the Update is causing problems for some users resulting in having to do factory resets) we had no other option to do a reset to the operating system.

Dell has told me that MICROSOFT has to reinstall and activate Office on my computer. They will take my invoice number for the purchase and reinstall it. HOWEVER, every help page I go to inside of Microsoft either ends in a loop, or I get a message that the page for customer assistance doesn't exist. I cannot find a way to get to any assistance page.

I have paid for a product, and I cannot even get to a chat point. My frustration with Microsoft having 1) caused a mess with the update, and the 2) Not being able to get anyone is pretty sky high right now. But the bottom line is I bought the product, and I am due what I paid for.

    Hi,

Sorry about all the issues that you have been facing after the Windows update and working with Dell and Microsoft.

I will do my best to help.

This community is for end-to-end users so unfortunately we do not have access to your account details. Since this concern may require sensitive information, I request you to contact Microsoft support directly for help.

But there are few things that you can do:

    1. You must have logged in to your Microsoft account via ‘Office Home and Student’ that came preinstalled with your Dell PC, if so, do you not see it linked to your Microsoft Account if you visit it on —> account.microsoft.com
    2. Take the following steps and let me know if it helps you connect with Microsoft Support:
    • Please go to this link ---> https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/contactus/
    • Click on 'Microsoft 365'
    • In the pop-up menu, click on 'Get Home support'
    • Here, in the box under 'We're here to help', enter 'Common Office activation issues' and hit Enter
    • Now you will see a button at the bottom that says 'Contact Support', click that
    • Select the product 'Microsoft 365 and Office'
    • Select 'Activate my product', click Confirm
    1. Alternatively, you can find Microsoft’s local hotlines here —> https://support.microsoft.com/help/28808

    Kind regards, Amit
