Why can't I wrap a picture (to move freely) with text on Word Online?

Hello,

I want to have a picture move freely around text but I'm using Word online and that functionality isn't available. I was able to position the image using the desktop app, but it did not populate to the online document as this article suggested after saving it in the desktop version. Is there a way around this? Does anyone know why this functionality isn't available for Word online? (Makes no sense to me)

Thanks!

It's so frustrating! It's one of the most basic things that you do on Word and it has been removed!!! Why?

In that case why don't you call it for another format?
A DOCX file should always present itself the same way.

Instead, now when my colleagues open my carefully crafted word doc in Sharepoint or Teams it looks awful

Miucrosofts competition can view and edit wird docs better than Microsoft.

Microsfoft is screwed. You are going to be so run over by Google Docs or other professional developers.

    Dear Fanny,

    Good day!!

Unfortunately, the ability to move images freely around the the text is not currently available in Word Online. This is because Word Online is a streamlined version of the desktop application and does not have all of the features and capabilities of the desktop version.

One workaround you could try is to use text boxes to position the image where you want it. You can insert a text box from the Insert tab in Word Online and then drag and drop the image into the text box. Once the image is in the text box, you can position it wherever you want and the text will flow around it.

However, this method may not give you the same level of control as the desktop app, and the text may not flow as smoothly around the image.

Moreover, to use this functionality you need to open the document in the Word application, and if you open the same Word document in Word Online, you won't be able to see this feature.

It would definitely be ideal if we can add this feature to Microsoft Word experience. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. Word Online is very basic compared to the full version of Word that runs on a PC or Mac.
