How to Vertically Split a Screen in Microsoft Word (feature request)

I'm aware this is a duplicate thread, but the old one is locked and I feel this is important.

I know the "workaround for this", but it requires multiple steps:

  1. Click "View"
  2. Click the "New window" button on the View ribbon
  3. Click "View" again
  4. Click "View Side by Side"
  5. Click the little down arrow under "Window" (because you've just compressed the ribbon so you can't see all the buttons and have a duplicate ribbon you don't really need)
  6. Click the "Synchronous Scrolling" button on the View tab if you want both documents to scroll simultaneously.

This feels janky and inelegant.

In stark contrast, to split horizontally:

  1. Click "view"
  2. Click "Split"

Super quick and easy.

My request will probably be ignored, but please can there be two buttons, "Split vertical" and "Split horizontal"? Particularly since most monitors are 16:9 and lend themselves well to a vertical split.

Perhaps I'm asking something really stupid?

If you really want to click on a button, you can add one to your QAT for your macro.

Any QAT modification or keyboard shortcut should be stored in the same template that holds the macro.

I added a vote to your suggestion.

Great thanks, I'll give your macro suggestion a go! I've added the feature request too.

    Thanks again,

    Will

    Dear William,

    Good day!!

I agree with you and it would be ideal if we can add this feature to the Microsoft Word experience. Thank you for bringing this to our attention. You can send your feedback on our feedback web portal https://feedbackportal.microsoft.com/  Our Product Team is constantly checking the comments and feedback from our customers to improve Microsoft products.

As a workaround, you can meet your requirement with one click by creating a Macro and assigning a shortcut to the Macro. So, I would like to suggest you post your concern in the VBA Community to get detailed help from the VBA experts. Reference: https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/office/vba/articles/feedback-support

Sorry for your inconvenience and hope you can understand!

    Have a good day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia

Your request will certainly be ignored, not because it is a bad idea but because you are asking in the wrong place!

This is not the place to get any changes made in Word nor the attention of developers at Microsoft. This is an independent user-to-user support forum. MS does not see anything you post here. The way to get their attention is through the feedback mechanisms.

My personal preference is to use the Word Feedback Portal. If you do, please get a share link and post it here so that others seeing this thread can go there and vote and comment. While you are there, check for other posts and feel free to vote and comment on those as well!
