Adding A Footer In Slide Master Doesn't Work

Hi,

I create a brand-new presentation. I open Slide Master view. I add a footer to the Master Slide (not the layout). The footer does not apply to any of the layouts, nor slides in the presentation.

I have Footer checked in the Master Layout options. I tried unchecking it, closing the Slide Master view, reopening, rechecking, and trying again. It doesn't work.

Could someone advise please?

On each slide layout where you want a footer to appear, uncheck and recheck the Slide Master>Master Layout>Footers option.

Once the footer is on the slide layouts, visit each slide where the footer is to appear and click on the Home>Reset button. This updates each slide to its layout.

If the footers are still not visible, choose Insert>Header&Footers, check the Footer option and choose Apply to All.

Sometimes, and it's not all that uncommon, the footers on your slides can sort of get disconnected from what's on the Master/Layouts.

Try this; with luck, this'll get the wiring sorted out:

    • Select and DELETE the footer on each slide
    • Go to Insert | Header & Footer; remove the check next to Footer (and any other of the bits you're having trouble with), click Apply To ALL
    • In Slide Master view, make sure that the Header & Footer setup is what you want.
    • Back to Normal view, go to Insert | Header & Footer again, re-check the appropriate check boxes and again click Apply To All.

    Hi John,

Let's take a step back to make sure we are on the same page.

Even before unchecking and rechecking the Footer on the layouts, there is a footer, but it does not sync with the Master Layout. So, when I edit the footer on the master layout, it does not sync the new Footer to the layout unless I check and uncheck the Footer on the layout.

I am using a brand new Powerpoint presentation, so the file is not relevant.

Here are the steps I'm taking:

    1. Create new PowerPoint document.
    2. Open Slide Master View
    3. Edit the Footer which is already present on Slide Master View:

As you can see, editing the Master did not sync the Footer to the layout.

Unchecking and checking Footer syncs the Footer to the layout:

Next, I updated the Footer in the Master again:

The new Footer does not sync to the layout, unless I uncheck and recheck Footer again, hence my question about needing to do it every time.

    Could you advise please? Thanks

I never said you needed to check and uncheck the footer every time you update. That is something you have to do only once to add a footer to each layout, and then only if the footer is missing from the layout.

After adding the footer to the slide master, try using the Insert>Header and Footer command. Check the Footer and click on Apply to All while you're in Slide Master view.

If you still can't get it to appear, please upload the file to a cloud service, then post a share link here and I'll let you know exactly what the problem is..
