How to excluded title page from page numbering

Hello,

How do I exclude the title page from page numbering?

Some help docs say to 'start numbering at 0', but there is no 0 in roman numerals, so that's not possible for this numbering system.

I'm on Mac OS Microsoft 365

Thanks

    Hi Aron

I'm AnnaThomas and I'd happily help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

To exclude the title page from page numbering on Mac OS Microsoft 365, you can remove the page number from the first page by going to Insert > Header or Footer > Edit Header or Edit Footer.

Then select Different First Page. This can be applied to the first page of any section in your document, not just the very first page. In the header or footer area, you should see a label on the first page that says First Page Header. Select the page number and press Delete. Then select Close Header and Footer or press Esc to exit

I hope this helps ;-), let me know if this is contrary to what you need, I would still be helpful to answer more of your questions.

    Best Regards,

    AnnaThomas

The only way I know of to exclude a title page or cover page from the "y" part of Page x of y formulation is to have Word insert a Cover Page. Cover Page Anomalies

Typically, such a cover page will show as page 0 and not count in the total count for the NumPages field.

I'm not sure where the control to do that is placed in Word for the Mac. In the Windows version it is on the Insert tab in the Pages group.

Anna's suggestion to use the Different First Page setting is valid but does not address the start at zero idea. That is handled in the Format Page Numbers dialog and even if using Roman numerals, you should be able to type in a 0.
