Sharepoint vs OneDrive

Hello,

For a solo-practice law firm that has only one Microsoft 365 user, and so far there have not been any opportunities to do any “co-authoring” on documents with clients or others outside the firm, is there any particular advantage to using SharePoint instead of OneDrive? (which is currently being use for file-storage)

Thank you very much

Craig

    Dear respected CraigCB,

Good day! Thank you for posting to Microsoft Community. We are happy to help you.

As per your description, SharePoint and OneDrive both are cloud-based services that help share and manage content. However, OneDrive is best place for private work documents that only you intend to see, and SharePoint is for use when you are working as part of a team or an organisation. You can share document files & permissions across several individuals.

    Collaboration with others

-OneDrive is great for draft documents before moving to a team site or personal documents that no one else need to see.

-SharePoint great for teams oof users working together and collaborating on document.

Appreciate your patience and understanding and thank you for your time and cooperation.

    Sincerely,

    Hi Craig,

In a sole-practice I use both OneDrive and DropBox. Both allow me to share files and I can give a view-only link for them. I set up DropBox folders with edit access for clients so they can store material there. The same might be possible with OneDrive, but I have more storage available on DropBox so do it there. I do not use SharePoint.
