How to set up automatic backup to OneDrive?

There are Word documents on my main computer’s hard drive. This computer and the laptop I just bought both have Microsoft 365.

I would like to make all but a few personal folders on the main computer automatically backup/sync to OneDrive. Then I will change the Word default drive on the laptop to the same location as the main computer’s OneDrive backup path. Hopefully, I can then update word documents on the laptop and the documents will get changed eventually on the main computer’s hard drive.

Is this possible? If so, how do I set it up?

Thank you.

thank you again. I see there is more to this than just installing OneDrive on the laptop. Let check the current settings on OneDrive on the old computer and make them fit what you suggested. Then I will get back to you if you will be kind enough to wait for me.

I now have OneDrive installed on the laptop along with Microsoft 365. I am ready for the next step. Thank you

NOTE: I would have gotten back to you the next day but but our fairly new puppy got a tummy ache. She is fine now, however.

Thank you. Tomorrow, I will install OneDrive on the laptop. It is already installed on the main computer. The main computer may be backing up automatically. I am not sure as someone else set it up for me a few years ago.

    Hello,

Thank you for coming to the forum. I will be happy to assist in the best way I can.

Let me repaint the scenario and correct me if I have got it wrong.

You want a particular folder to back up and sync its content with another computer.

I will run through the steps assuming there is no onedrive installed on your device already.

    1. What you need to do is to install OneDrive on both devices and sign in with the same Microsoft account. Note during the installation do not select or enable the option for it to back up documents, desktop and pictures. You can do that later if you want, but for this scenario no need.
    2. In the OneDrive directory which will be created in the Windows Explorer called OneDrive - Personal copy that particular folder you want to have synced to both devices into it.

This will sync the folder to the cloud and drop a copy on the other device in the same OneDrive - Personal.

The reason I am asking you to copy to the onedrive path is because OneDrive does not have the feature to select a personal folder created by the user, so the user has to move the folder to the OneDrive path. Also, when you do, you cannot tell OneDrive to not sync subfolders, so make sure you only move the contents you want to be synced.

    I kindly await a reply for a follow-up

    Best Regards Fuad
