How to fix a split windows - document side by side program problem

I have two PC’s, a HP desktop and a Lenovo laptop, both have Microsoft 365 installed and are running updated Windows 11. I am using the split screen system mostly just with two, side by side, screens on my desktop and with absolutely no problems in getting it to work there. However, on my laptop, the split screen system will not work further than that the latest shown screen can be moved to the left or to the right etc. using either the WIN logo + left or right button or the alternative marking the selected green area in top right corner. I cannot get two different displays on the right -left side on the screen on the laptop, but on the desktop everything pops up for choosing and not a problem in doing that. So, is there a “hidden” setting in on my laptop, which I am missing after I checked that > Multitasking > Snap Windows all seem to be on and everything else seems to be allowing for the multiple windows. You advise will be most appreciated! Thanks Jorgen

    Hi Jorgen

I'm AnnaThomas and I'd happily help you with your question. In this Forum, we are Microsoft consumers just like yourself.

one possible solution to this issue is to make sure that the Snap Windows feature is enabled. You can do this by going to Settings > System > Multitasking and making sure that the toggle button next to Snap Windows is set to On.

If this does not work, you could try updating your graphics driver. You can do this by going to Device Manager, expanding the Display adapters entry, right-clicking on your graphics adapter, and selecting Update driver.

You are just referring to organizing open windows on the screen? Doing that should work unless you have turned off those options under Windows Settings > System > Multitasking. See also https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/snap-your-windows-885a9b1e-a983-a3b1-16cd-c531795e6241.

I mentioned multiple, virtual desktops because that functionality was added to Windows 10 and 11. For more, have a look at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/multiple-desktops-in-windows-36f52e38-5b4a-557b-2ff9-e1a60c976434.

Thanks for the clarification, If you want to show two different presentations side by side on your laptop, you can try opening two instances of PowerPoint and arranging the windows side by side. Here’s how you can do this:

Open the first presentation in PowerPoint. Click on the “Start” button and search for “PowerPoint” to open a second instance of the application. In the second instance of PowerPoint, open the second presentation that you want to view. Click on the “View” tab in one of the PowerPoint windows and select “Arrange All” from the “Window” group to arrange the two presentations side by side.

Alternatively, you can also try manually resizing and positioning the two PowerPoint windows on your screen to view them side by side.

Thanks for your reply so far, but it is just one the laptop i want to show two different presentations side by side, like the File Explorer (overview) and then one of its sub folders so I can move items from one subfolder (presented say on the right side of the screen) to a different subfolder chosen amongst the list of other folder, listed in the line of folders in the File Explorer on the left side of the same laptop screen. In principle I can do such things on my desktop without any problem or hassle, but not do the same thing om my laptop. Both computers runs exactly the same operation system, Window 11, but my laptop has all my essential files and is the main computer. it would be far too cumbersome to move all the files over to USB sticks and do the jobs on the desktop, - and it should not be necessary to do so. I got a lot of work to do in that direction, so I will be pleased to hear where and what the problem is.

Are you saying that you have two (virtual) desktops shown and you want to split the screen in such a way that one document from each desktop shares the screen?
