Check compatibility of desktop PC for latest MS Office Professional.

When I was employed, I used the official CD versions of Microsoft Office Professional for Windows '95 and 2000 in business, and been accustomed to using to the products of Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint and Schedule. I have also had a version on my PC running Windows 10 until about 6 months ago, I think it was the 2000 version; it suddenly became unuseable. I have tried downloading the oroduct from several sites, these are cheaper than MS but have had problems when trying to load them.

Is there any software that can check my PC for compatibility with Office Professional Plus running Windows 10, although I only require Word nowadays and don't want a subscription version, since retired.

I also have another desktop PC with Windows 11 which I have bought since Windows 10 is becoming non supported, but gradually using this.

I am currently running Office 2010 Home and Business in Windows 10 simultaneously with Microsoft 365. I only use Outlook in the 365 version and do not have any conflicts.

My Office 97, 2000, 2003, 2007, 2013 all got zapped with my old hard drive and I did not still have installation media and product keys. They all did run previously with 365 on Windows 10, although 97 was a bit flaky.

For Word, I have separate Startup and User Templates folders for each version. They all shared a workgroup templates folder.

Currently, I have Office 2021 Pro on a Windows 11 computer that shares the Startup, UserTemplates, and Workgroup Templates via Dropbox with Microsoft 365.

Office Professional Plus is a volume license (for corporations). You can get Office Professional 2021, which will certainly run on either Windows 10 or Windows 11. Earlier versions of Office are not available from Microsoft, and extreme care must be used in selecting a vendor for such versions, as they are often illegal volume licenses that will eventually be detected and deactivated.

If you want to use Office on both your PCs, you would do better to get a Microsoft 365subscription, which can be installed on multiple devices.

Any of these versions will be a shock to the system if you've been using Office 95 or 2000; the Ribbon interface introduced in Office 2007 is very different from the menus and toolbars you are undoubtedly used to.

All I can say is that I am running Word 2003, 2007, 2010, 2013, and 2021 side by side without issue. The only problems are that:

    1. Every time Windows/Office is updated, I have to reregister Word 2003 to make it dominant.
    2. Sometimes after having Word 2021 open (I haven't established whether it is the length of time or the number of actions performed that is the critical factor), Outlook 2010 generates a Send/Receive error, and I have to restart it.

I have had sincere regrets about going for the Home and Business version of Office 2021 rather than Home and Student (which doesn't include Outlook), as the Outlook conflict has hamstrung my ability to send from within applications.

My understanding is that Microsoft 365 is intolerant of other versions, which is why it is sandboxed in my laptop. My desktop skips from Office 2013 to Office 2021, and they seem to be (mostly) coexisting.

I also have Word 2003 running on Windows 10. I haven't tried it on Windows 11, as I have that only on my laptop, on which I am running Office 365 (sandboxed, as I don't allow it on my desktop with my five other Office versions). I would be doubtful than an older version would work on Windows 10, but I don't think that's what you were asking, since you say Office 2000 no longer works.
