Disable Designer pane in Word online

Every time create a new document in MS365 online, the Designer pane pops out automatically. It's annoying as f##% and I want it permanently gone.

I've done a Google search and can find nothing that works. There are lots of suggestions for the Designer pane in PowerPoint using File>Options but the Options selection isn't available.

*Useful* thoughts appreciated.

    I attempted to reset the MS 365 settings and Chrome settings. Resetting MS 365 blitzed the desktop apps I had installed, including Outlook, so had to reinstall those.

    After doing that, with both MS 365 and Chrome settings reset to defautl. The behviour of the Design panel popping out automatically persists.

    Any *useful* thoughts appreciated.

    Using Chrome, fully updated. Not going to switch browsers.

    Hi Robert,

    I am not seeing this here.

    I go to Word online and click on new document.

    While the Designer button is there, the Designer Pane does not appear unless I click on it.

    Which browser are you using?

    Based on the description you posted, it seems that you have an issue with MS Office wherein you want to know how you can disable the Designer pane when you open the web version of your Word app.
