Is it possible to make Tab leaders in the TOC a different color? How can I make multilevel numbering work when one level is in a text box?

Split from this thread.

Thank you for that - I actually worked it out but this article is very useful.

I have two other questions

  1. Is it possible to make the Tab Leaders a different colour to the text in the TOC?
  2. When using Text Boxes the List Numbering does not appear to work correctly - ie 1. Heading in text box, and then to go to Level 2, outside of the text box it does not work correctly. I have a document with Level 1 numbering in Text Boxes, however the first section in the document does not have Level 2 numbering. So to begin Level 2 numbering it reverts to Level 1 (ie 1.1), then the next section continues with 1.2. I hope this makes sense?

Many thanks.

Janelle

    Hi Janelle,

I split your new questions into a separate post/thread. With new questions, you can get the quickest and best answers by posting separately. How to Ask Questions In this Forum When you can, one question per post will get you the best results.

    1. Different color for dot leader? There is no automatic way to do this. You would have to do it manually after your TOC is fixed. You would want to unlink or lock the TOC field first. You would actually be changing the color of the (non-printing) tab character. It may be possible to do this with a macro.
    2. Have multilevel numbering work with a level in text boxes?

Use Frames instead of Textboxes. Frames, unlike textboxes are in the document text level and can be a part of a Word paragraph style.

Frames and Textboxes in Microsoft Word

To Word, a textbox may not be located at the spot you see it, but rather anchored to a paragraph that is above or below the textbox.

What is the purpose of the TextBoxes. About the only time that they are reallly required is if you want to link one to another so that the text will flow from one to the other.
