In Word: how to find Unicode U+00AC ?

I have a document with a very special character at random places.

Copied that character and tried to do a find and replace, but Word could not find that character.

Does anyone have a suggestion how to perform a find and replace on this weird character?

    In Word, this character is an optional hyphen. The code to use in the 'Find what' box is ^-
