I want to compare my open word document to another word document

There is no clear way to select my currently open document to another open document when Comparing Documents.

It appears that I need to select a document to open it rather than compare the current document. The dropdown to select the files is minuscule and looks like it's most, but not all of my recently opened document list. There is no option to open a document from Teams, SharePoint, etc. from the Browse feature.

Has Microsoft just forgotten about this feature? It's been like this since 2007.

The currently open documents will be accessible in the Compare dialog box, from the drop down list of recent documents, if that helps.

    Dear Daniel,

    Good day!!

I understand your concern and I apologies for the inconvenience caused due to the UI of Compare feature in the Word app, I request you to report the behavior the related development team via adding the feedback directly in the Word app: How do I give feedback on Microsoft 365? - Microsoft Support

As a workaround, to open the documents that are stored in your Teams or SharePoint Online or your OneDrive for Business, I suggest you sync the SharePoint Online Document libraries (the files that are uploaded to the Team in the Microsoft Teams will be stored in the SharePoint Online site linked to the Team) and click on the Folder icon in the Compare feature window:

After clicking the folder icon, go to the SharePoint Online synced folder and choose the document as per your requirement.

Thanks for your patience and understanding. Have a good day!!

    Best Regards,

    Sophia
