Cannot change OneDrive folder location on Mac OS Monterey 12.6.3

I lost the connection to OneDrive. The folder was previously located on an external SSD, and I want to keep it this way. When I try to change the location of the default to the custom folder, it pretends like it will allow me to select it, but then the window freezes and becomes stuck on top of the original prompt. When I click on the original prompt, I am right back where I started, and the custom folder is not selected. PS. I tried to upload a screenshot, but this website wouldn't allow it.

    This doesn't solve the problem.

The selected folder will have OneDrive folder, but it is only an alias.

Check the OneDrive Folder info. It says: Original: / Users/your name/Library/CloudStorage/OneDrive-Personal.

Many users want to have OneDrive on a large-capacity external drive so that all files are available locally and not on-demand. My Mac has 1TB internal storage. Since OneDrive cannot change the default folder to the intended/desired location I specify, it cannot change the path.

This is a significant problem for the people who are in creative areas of work or hobby. I am a landscape architect, and use many images and 3D models daily basis. I also have many Ableton files to be able to access while making music. For people like us, on-demand doesn't work.

In retrospect, I should have stayed with PC which has more flexible file management system than Mac. Or I should have larger internal storage when I purchased Mac M2 Studio. I thought I did full research, but I missed this one.

    Hello,

Thanks for contacting this forum. I understand that you're trying to change the folder location of OneDrive app in your MAC device.

Please note if you would like to change the mapped location, you need to unlick the account first. Kinly try the steps below in same order.

    1. Unlink your OneDrive

Click the OneDrive cloud icon up in your Menu bar, click the three dots to open the menu, and select Preferences.

    #Go to the Account tab.

    #Select Unlink this PC.

    1. Move your OneDrive folders Using File Explorer or Mac Finder, drag or move your computer's OneDrive folders to your preferred location.
    2. Re-link your OneDrive #Follow these steps to re-link your OneDrive

#Go back to the OneDrive setup screen and select Get started

#Follow the instructions until you get to the screen where you see your OneDrive folder's location. Select Change Location.

#Choose the new folder location, and then select OK.

#You'll see a message letting you know that the OneDrive folder in the new location already has files in it. Select Use this location, and then finish setting up OneDrive.

The account is already unlinked. That is the first thing I did.
