Hi Everyone,

I have tried reinstalling my normal template and deleting word from the registry editor to help make names of my headings appear under the style gallery. I understand that there is a visual refresh for word 2021 and office 365 which you can turn off to get the appearance of the word styles gallery appear back to default but mine is word 2019. Does anyone have any tips?

Does anyone have any tips? This is what my styles gallery looks like.

I would like it to show as the image below

See my article New Etxperience/Visual Refresh Preview - Microsoft Office - Offic e 365 - Turning it On and Off.

In it, I describe how I turned it off in Word/Office 2021, without the megaphone. It involves temporarily installing Microsoft 365 and confusing your computer. Then you turn off the new experience in Word 365. Then uninstall Microsoft 365 and reinstall/repair Office 2019. This is not a good workaround, but it has worked for me, so far. It is a lot of trouble.

This is the result of the Visual Refresh, and the Quick Style Gallery is showing the names of your styles; it just isn't showing the formatting. Most users agree this is a step in the wrong direction, and it's hard to believe that the person who made this change decision is actually a Word user because this is so unhelpful. You can still see the formatting in the Styles pane, however.

If you have the megaphone icon on your title bar that advertises "Upcoming Features," you have the opportunity to turn off the Visual Refresh Preview:

Again, your first image is showing the names of the styles: Normal, No Spacing, 1.1 Heading 1, and so on. You can see more styles by clicking the down arrow in the gallery.

    Hi Suzanne,

Thank you for the response. I do not have the megaphone in my titlebar. However, I do not know what went wrong and why my styles gallery is not showing the names of my styles. Also, isn't the visual refresh present only in Word 2021 and Office 365? For example, this is my styles gallery below, if it displaying this way, I cannot see what are the name of the styles.

Is there a way to restore it back to word's default settings so that it appears with the names of the styles written below (2nd image)
